Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

All the Wrong Moves

Marathon Oil is the most ultra political work environment I have ever worked in. Where Bravado, Bluster, saying hello and then ploying to throw a person under the bus and brown nosing are king and anything of substance is of the least valued. The company has no exploration and only follows the pack of its peers to purchase oil and try to produce it efficiently. Anyone that has a value of being genuine and ingenuity will find this place a horrendous commute with a good pay check.

I can not say how HORRIBLE middle management is with nothing more than Yes men/women that apparently are controlled by the horrendous HR department. If you believe management HR makes all decisions, so HR is a very big non-personable problem.

Most of but not all of people left are truly back stabbing despicable co-workers with little to no knowledge of how an E&P company should be.

These guys short sighted moves of USA only unconventional plays will work for a while, but sustainability. Please, no way......

Advice sell to Puoneer, Contenetal, or EoG and get rid of the despicables while retaining the people that give a darn.

If you’ve yet to see the hideously political environment and the overtly unfriendly HR department, you will. Success, especially in the support departments, where utterly incompetent mid-level managers is the norm, is measured by pursuit of meaningless indices (yes, HES / Procurement) that is YOU! The problem is that there aren’t many jobs out there so many of us (who need a paycheck) are hanging on while looking. Praying for a turnaround that increases employment opportunities across the oil patch...

Left this company and never looked back. Marathon management is the model of how not to run a company. Vacuous initiatives with no regard for technical work. Did they do any due diligence at all on that Delaware deal? Definitely not on Payrock. What a joke. Botox Tillman and the Blue Jeans somehow still have a job after ruining a century old company and destroying shareholder value.

My advice to anyone that thinks they're worth a sh--, leave. You will be much happier. And make more money. Just BE BOLD!

Cheap A-- Company. Let’s be innovative and do great things but at the same time let’s layoff people and CUT budgets. Blow me.

Don’t recall saying I was unhappy. Nice at little digs I see, probably one of the co-workers so many on this site complain about and someone I think we’d all like to not have to work with.

I posted to this site with real and genuine feedback on this organization via my experience in hopes somebody may read this and think twice about accepting a position with this company or atleast know what they’re signing up for.

Like I said wish ya’ll well. It can’t ran all the time now can it? Well maybe at old 5555....

The Dude is spot on. One day you will be stabbed in the back by a peer for no good reason. Or, you will lose your job while you out perform all of your peers. While your boss loves you and knows that you are an unmatchable workhorse, someone in management above your boss who doesn't see your pretty face enough or doesn't like that you don't kiss enough butt will make sure you're on the next list of layoffs. It will not be until that point that you will realize how bad of a work place MRO truly is. Until then, keep grinding, pucker those lips, and good luck out there. MRO is nothing more than a political work place.

Actually love sunshine, so thanks. Wish the best for You folks.

My experience shared by many is it’s a toot your own horn, political quagmire of a mess.

Most people with talent and assertive ambition will find both stunted by a smile of people that think they have to have a plan to destroy everyone in the meeting to get ahead.

I think you’ll find that an EoG or Pioneer is a bit more real and has substance. Not people with bravado who talk talk talk kind of like our posts.

Good luck lady.

I can't refrain:

I was laid off in the downturn and spent 2 years looking for an opportunity to get back in the industry before Marathon hired me on recently. If you feel sorry for yourself now, try going through that.

Haven't been around along enough to be overly familiar with the culture yet, but I have experienced nothing but good people so far. My commute ain't bad either.

US conventional plays not sustainable? Is that a joke? Just where do you think the companies that you think should buy Marathon are focused? Why not go work for them if you're so miserable anyway?

I'm happy to be at Marathon and getting my piece of that 270,000 BOED. Also happy about those big wells we've been drilling lately.

Sorry to bring a little bit of sunshine to this miserable website.
