Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

Art Insitutes that are staying open, has anything changed?

Are there student orientations? Is the word getting out? Full timers are acting like it is business as usual but I don’t know if they are being kept in the dark or just ignoring what has taken place. Adjuncts I’ve talked to are just grateful this isn’t a full time gig and can pick up classes/jobs somewhere else. This is only my second class teaching here and I’m in shock at what has happened and that nobody is talking. No communication from the school outside of the standard email sent to all schools.

The faculty at the school nearby that is not closing is not blissfully ignorant. The school is still recruiting new students which is beyond unethical. But here is our delema. Do we walk because this is unacceptable or do we stay and at least give as much as we can to the students in the time we have left. They are never going to get the education or degree promise and will be saddled with student loan payments for years at least I can give them some skills that could help them survive this mess. Meanwhile we refuse to do anything that will help with new student recruiting. On that note there is a open house at AI Hollywood this Saturday. Can anyone who has already left come and warn new students about what they are walking into.? They will never be able to finish the program they start on ground or on line. The courses just aren’t available and most(I wish it was all) of the faculty know better than to participate in this by writing online classes and handing over their intellectual property for someone else to teach. Anyone who says its business as usual is lying. They are trying to milk students for as much as they can before they toss them to the curb. Oh wait, that is business as usual. And the president you are referring to is a lying piece of sh-- that has no respect for students or faculty.

FaQue&A next week.

We're expecting as others to be prepared to pick up more students and more adjuncts from closing schools, keep our mouths shut, and go about business as usual, but that's just watercooler conversations and conjecture.

All Ais remaining are scheduled to be on the semester system by the close of the year, that is just something to keep vp, dean, pd (few that are left) and curriculum doing busy work until all Ais close at the end of the year. We have always done a lot of busy work that leads to nothing at Ai.

Side note, we were all told DCEH would reduce tuition, when asked how, we were told by going from quarters to semesters students will have less classes to pay for which will be less tuition. The reasoning skills of Ai administrators is astounding.

Now with the 50% off fire sale, remaining and new students foolish enough to start definitely get a discount on tuition, but they will still be paying for it for decades to come. Any discounts for existing students DCEH?

50% tuition cut means a 50% faculty cut too right? We are all just waiting, but going about business as usual, we are multitaskers.

If you are a student reading any of these blogs about Ai and AU, you have other choices for an education.

I'm faculty at one school closing and know many at a school nearby that isn't closing. The faculty at the school that isn't closing is blissfully living in ignorance. They assume that this is just yet another major RIF but they have been spared. Their school is basically acting like nothing is wrong and actually relieved because they are expecting to get transfers from our school and boost student enrollment.

  • this is of note because my school and the school not closing share the same president who clearly has been on these calls and knows that the intention is to shut all schools down and turn them into "learning centers"

You can bet that they will try and milk as much money out of the students and government aid as possible before they shut down tdhe schools in December. I have been and adjuct for 11 years and have resigned because it is morally wrong to teach any classes for the Art Institute. The students will just be spending money that will lead to nothing except a worthless degree. Please tell all students that you can to sue for all money they spent and to not spend a penny more.

Those staying open, don't get too comfortable. It's only a merger of time before BR implodes this whole system for his own personal gain.

We are staying open and I can say that we are going through the motions of business as usual- orientation, interviews, applications, etc. However, we do feel a lot of sadness for our fellow coworkers and students who have lost and are losing their jobs and schools. Morale is so low. We have no faith in corporate leadership and everyone I talk to agrees that even if we were assured that our jobs were safe we’d want to leave because of the way DCEH is operating.

Definitely not ignoring what's going on...only communication is through those wonderful emails.

No ftf is going to say anything if they know something -- for fear of retaliation -- which ranks high at Ai. so they are turning a blind eye hoping it will all go away-- which is stupid - because there won't be any job anyway --

I'll lay money on that they are sold before the end of the year.

When are they going to layoff Financial Aid? There is no reason to be here if only going until Dec.
