They cut my territory by 80% and put me on a PIP sixty days later. It's cheaper than an RA. If you are over 40 they are just looking for any excuse they can use.

I like the title of this post. Nothing more to add. PIPexpress!!!
Time to move on. Use the PIP time to look for a new job.
Using PIPs for those over 40 will also make the numbers reported to the governments better when there is no under 40 population to keep the illusion of no age discrimination.
This shouldn’t be a surprised. There are many options too:

Assign you to white space accounts or territory and expect result within a quarter.

Put you on PIP with unachievable targets, ie doubling up the already mission impossible target.

Dig out your previous expense reimbursement.

Forcing you to commit deal that is still in RFP stage.

Resource Actions.

Mental harassment.

Push you to other team or department.

Sell your product to HCL for example.

Put you in special project.

Telling you are next in the RA list every week.
Are you surprised? How many people have you seen to lose territory and get canned - I'd say 'a lot'
