Thread regarding Viacom Inc. layoffs

Is there any way to find out if you're on the list?

Barring that, can you ask for a package? I've been here a while, long enough that a package would lead to a nice summer for me and if I am on the list, I would like to wait it out. If I'm not on the list then I'll start my job search in earnest or try to get on the list if there is a way to do it.

you CANT volunteer for a layoff...i know this i have seen it ....it will get you more in deep sh--, with your boss...the trust with boss will be broken..now that you don't want to work for him or the company.

BUT

YOU can prove other things to get laid off......in layoff season.

can't say it NOW ...will give you the 401 in june .....more info coming

I have also heard that if you have a good relationship with your manager you can have the discussion as the person above says. You could frame it as, you just can't take the instability and would rather know for sure this was happening . I know someone who successfully negotiated their own layoff but they were very close with their manager. Definitely don't go to HR, they are not the ones who decide who stays and goes anyway so that's a bad plan.

If you're tight enough with your manager, you can try talking to her about it. If she's being asked to make cuts and you let her know you're volunteering, she might oblige you.

All I know is you cant volunteer for a layoff. I talked to HR about getting on the list to be fired because I'm done at Viacom, but they said they don't take volunteers. SO I guess they would rather fire those who want to stay and keep those who want to be laid off. Makes a lot of sense how Viacom got the way it did....
