Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

What is better?

Somebody in another thread wrote how management was very open about these layoffs and how that's a good thing, and it got me thinking.

Is it better to get all the info on layoffs in advance, but not know for months if you are among those who are getting laid off, or just to learn one day out of the blue you are being shown the door?

The first option gives us time to prepare, but it also means months of anxiety and stress. The second option is sudden, no worrying ahead, but no chance to prepare for it either.

Really not sure which I prefer...

You're better off elsewhere. CA is drowning in mismanagement. Eventually they'll tank.

I would rather find out at the last minute. When I worked in a different industry, I knew when to be scared when layoffs were going down. I'm not scared here with this layoff. I think if you are scared that you are going to be let go, you may have reason to be scared because you know you are not busy full time and you realize your job is not needed. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people in multiple industries that are not busy all the time. If you are scared or concerned, you probably have a reason to be. Sometimes good people get laid off, as is the case at CA. Other times, people get laid off that just don't have jobs that are contributing.

Knowing ahead of time is better. Sure there will be anxiety, but at least you can prepare and start job searching right away instead of suddenly being tossed into unemployment.
