Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

More layoffs incoming?

Been hearing rumors lately about more layoffs at Shell Oil, but it is all very vague and lacking in any details.

I was wondering if somebody here has maybe heard something about possible layoffs or if I can just write the rumors off as ramblings from overworked and stressed out coworkers?

Don't understand why people want to stay at a company like shell. Full of nepotism and preferaties. As an engineer, I realized that this is not the company you can grow in if you don't have big brothers watching. Would definitely not recommend for new grads, there are better places out there....let their manages and team leads do the work.......

I have not heard of layoffs, but I'm starting to believe the strategy is to overwork employees until they voluntarily leave. I see a farewell email about once a month now from junior geo's/engineers.

uuy - only an intellectual pygmy would draw an inference such as this. Is this the best you can do with limited education.

Oil is up but earnings matter. if you don't make money in Canada, for example, you are out. Same applies elsewhere.

Heisenberg and Planck would find this confusing where one would indicate agreement by saluting with three fingers while the other would counter-offer by raising two. But what they know.

Human beings share over 95% of their DNA with chimpanzees and about 60% with bananas. This is scientific fact and usually, you might say, we can tell the difference.

In a company like Shell or any other major publicly traded stock, success or failure is only a quarter away for the senior guys. Think they care about the working stiffs? Only if your success translates to theirs. It’s all about your getting what you want/need; whatever level you are. Don’t expect any more or less. Layoffs? Yep, if it improves the next quarter results, do it.

Upstream, P&T, Finance, HR have all been gutted recently (or are in process). Downstream businesses are next. They are looking for a $1B+ reduction in OPEX globally. If you are 50+ or have an IPF below 1.0, I'd starting looking elsewhere.

I don’t see how layoffs are possible with the reduced amount of personnel and the same work load distributed to less people; how will the work get done?
