Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

How bad will this week be?

Any thoughts on how bad will this week be regarding layoffs? Or will we maybe get a short reprieve?

I just hope they don't continue as they have so far and spread it out over a couple of months, with fifty or a hundred laid off each week.

That would be pure torture.

Disgruntled In New York: It is clear to see why you were fired. I assume you are referring to the 401K matching they do almost every year. All employees as of 12/31/2017 get the bonus, so getting fired a week before the date has nothing to do with it. Your other statement makes no sense. CA's severance plan has been the same for decades. 2 weeks per year of service, not partial year. This is more generous than most other companies that I'm aware of. Not sure how you are coming up with 4 weeks of a loss, makes no sense at all. You may want to ask for help understanding these things as you don't seem to be getting it and your facts are just wrong.

Obviously layoffs are difficult - for all involved. The best option is to handle everything with integrity which is currently in question where CA is concerned. The timing - down to the week - is of utmost importance to both the employee and employer. CA timed this massive layoff to save $$$ for discretionary bonus sharing which occurs the third week in May. By laying off people one week before payoff - (you have to be an employee on the day of payout) - was a double kick in the gut to a great deal of people. Discretionary bonus is paid on the PREVIOUS years' earnings and should be deposited to the employee's retirement account if the employee was there for the previous year. It seems unethical to not do so. Also, at a layoff this massive, they should base the years from hire to annual hire date instead of the calendar year. A lot of people lost four weeks of pay because of this.

Some of the layoffs will not be completed until December. This is largely due to various international laws and not really CA's choice.

They aren't spreading it out on purpose. Laying off 800 people across a complex global employee base takes time. There are different laws in different countries to factor in. A large restructuring takes time.

They have been very transparent about everything happening, including HR executive management answering questions on internal forums.

Layoffs are extremely painful and as far as i can tell they are doing an ok job so far.
