Thread regarding FedEx Corp. layoffs

Openings for "All Levels" - Strange?

I am interested in joining FedEx Services (IT) and have been looking out for related positions, however I'm constantly seeing job postings such as "Postion Name - All Levels" - from Associate all the way through Advisor. Is this concerning? Was there a huge layoff in IT and now they are backfilling? What is the IT climate like in Fedex Services right now?

You don't want to work there. The end plan seems to be to move almost all IT to outsourced vendors. Pay is stagnant and benefits get worse each year. I have worked there for 5 years, they are currently trying to force out old timers with needed knowledge. They jump on the ship of what is the latest thing to try about every 2-3 years. Currently Agile and open area collaborative groups, s---s with all the meetings and lack of even a little privacy to allow you to think. Technology is old and they pay lip service to updating to newer ideas. They keep hiring more directors and managers and are very top heavy. I'm glad I have a new job lined up for after Jan 1.

FedEx rarely will do a layoff. But they have begun offering voluntary buyouts for more senior employees to encourage early retirement on a more steady basis.

FedEx IS outsourcing to Indian companies, but they still need people to direct/lead/advise those offshore developers. So they need so many full time employees to so many contractors.

The mood in IT? Lots of flux -FedEx keeps changing technology and tools and processes. moving to agile, Some people hate it and others love it. FedEx always been that way, but is much more disorganized than previously. It used to be that when a new process or tool was decided upon, then a lot of work was put into making it successful at FedEx. Something changed in higher ups, and now the changes are still happening, but the organization that used to exist to ensure success is lacking. Now each group has to try to implement the best they can.

These positions are in the USA, though. Will FedEx soon be outsourcing such positions?
