Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

No Student Evaluation Results Yet?

Does anyone else think that it’s suspicious that the student evaluations from last session haven’t been released yet? They are usually out much faster. I am wondering if it has something to do with the new ownership, maybe scrubbing the data before handing it over? If it was just a question of sharing a report with Cogswell there would be no need to hide the data from us. They could just hand it over. Of course, it could be general incompetence with the IT systems splitting off from AdTalcum...but somehow I don’t think so.

I have a feeling that the upcoming layoff is going to be like the end of the current Marvel superhero movie—half of the positions in the company are just going to distingrate randomly without rhyme or reason. Enh. Probably just paranoia on my part....

The NPS score is being misused. It was developed for 6 specific industries. Education is not one of them. The NPS is supposed to be used to evaluate a company or brand. Not individual classes. Search for NPS abuse or misuse. DeVry is doing everything wrong.

It’s everywhere, though. My car dealer told me that if he didn’t get perfect 10s on the new car purchase experience survey, he ‘hadn’t done his job.’ The trend is having to beg customers for perfect ratings across many industries. In reality it’s never perfect. The problem is that what companies really want is binary feedback...was it good or not? And customers (including students) think the same way—they either love you or hate you. You see this in student comments also...“best professor in the world” or “worst teacher ever.” Yet the Cult of the Likert Scale continues it’s tyranny. Humans are not good at subtle nuance, students particularly so. Bimodal distribution at both extremes of the scale cancels out any meaningful data. It’s frustrating that the inmates are running the asylum and are begging them to let us keep our jobs

In the normal world, 3.7/4.0 is 92.5% and would earn an "A"........only in this crazy bubble would that score be deemed "unacceptable"and act as such false evidence......how does one fight that kind of threat? And, the fact that the numbers were much more derived from how many students were disgruntled at their own inability to complete assignments, and not on the ability of any given professor :-(

What good has it ever done, except sell filing cabinets?

Because our metro/region/Group/area/whatever constantly holds them over our heads as a threat. Gotta hit those targets...you are replaceable, you know! We are trained to be paranoid about them and we have to explain to our managers if we get scores below our targets. Too much too low...and buh -bye

No need to falsify what you supposedly can't find.

Falsifying documents has always been grounds for immediate dismissal at DeVry.

Lost? Anyone who believes that, raise your hand. It's too suspicious that they magically disappear right now.
