Thread regarding Viacom Inc. layoffs

Severance

I know the last thing people who have been laid off want to do now is come here and answer our questions, but in case somebody is here who knows the answer I still have to ask: what kind of severance are we talking about in this round?

There was talk that severance policy would change and I'd like to know if that already went into effect or no?

So what about 60 days pay with layoff of more than 50 people? Was it applicable?

I was laid off in the September round. Based on my experience everyone receives a baseline of a couple weeks of continued paychecks (I think 4 weeks?) required by law. Then your additional severance tacked on top is based on your time spent with the company. The 6 month cap isn't true, we've definitely had people that have gotten laid off and received more than 6 months. There also isn't any "phasing out," you're encouraged to be out of the building within a few hours if possible.

Hope this helps! (Oh, and for what it's worth, being laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me, so try not to worry about it too much!)

Some people were given September termination notice.

Are those affected by the layoffs immediately let go? Or are the just notified that their positions will be phased out over the upcoming weeks/months?

I heard 10 weeks severance from someone who was just let go. They were here for 2 years.

2.5 years in got 3-months pay. Not sure if it's standard for everyone.

It's been capped at a maximum of 6 months severance for a while.

2 weeks for every year worked. This round some have only received 6 months and have been there 20+ years

Haven't heard of it changing, but I thought it was 3 weeks for every year you were with the company. That what people have been telling me.
