I agree with @T4pku4b-4kxo. You all need to get your heads out of the sand. Layoffs are a guarantee, it's better you accept that and prepare for the possibility than ignore it and find yourself out of a job without a backup plan.
I've got my resume updated, rainy day fund allocated, and my box ready. Omaha is looking more and more like a ghost town, and it feels as though we're being setup to fail so they can lay us off.
I've heard 500 total from some sources, and possibly something happening tomorrow (May 17th).
I agree to a point... just not about the upper management taking their money and fleeing. Many of them were given the option of retire/fire or layoff. There are DEFINITELY more layoffs coming, and I hope I am in that group.
Layoffs are occurring - ongoing - not just in larger numbers. Strategic positions are being eliminated with the goal of eventually shutting down specific sites. If you work at a facility that is becoming emptier and emptier, think about it - who is paying the electric bills? The business needs to be there in order to generate the revenue that pays the bills. These aren't tax-payer funded jobs. You think there is some Leprechaun in the furnace room generating cash?? Apollo is not in this for the long-haul - the Investors want a return on their investment - not pay for empty buildings. READ the signs - the former executives took their millions and fled. They knew what was coming - and shame on them - they should have been fired years ago for complacency and inept managing of West overall. Apollo is cleaning up, maximizing efficiencies, selling back to the market - leaving the re-defined company with significant debt - the goal is to walk away - not create a long-term, stable entity.
