The article about the Charlotte school say that they were for profit and DCEH never got non profit status. Isn’t this fraud in a big way since all the schools have been telling students the school is non profit? The faculty and staff also was led to believe they were non profit.

Our president and EC gave us the impression that we were non profit. The website said we were non profit... so much deception.

Dream Center Education Holdings Completes Transition of Remaining Art Institutes Locations to Nonprofit Institutions
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 20, 2018 -- Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) is pleased to announce the completion of the transfer of assets of The Art Institutes system of schools to non-profit institutions under its ownership.
“We are thankful that our accreditors and regulatory agencies supported our vision to convert these schools to non-profit institutions,” said Brent Richardson, chief executive officer. “We look forward to seeing these institutions, which date back more than 100 years, to their future focused on their students and the communities they serve.”
Not at mine at all. Posters filled in every conceivable place including elevators proclaiming "we're now non profit" and "we're now non profit" in the email sigs of all admin.
Admin at my location has been very clear that we are waiting for DOE approval of non-profit status.
The letter they sent to students clearly stated that they are a NON PROFIT entity
It's my understanding that the issues with HLC were similar to those of Middle States: they just didn't trust DCEH's motivations.
Most people I know (including myself) didn't know before DCEH bought Ai that they had targeted ITT and ran afoul of Obama era protections. By the time, Trump and DeVos were in charge, ITT was dead. Both HLC and Middle States were acutely aware of these things and hesitant to approve. That's likely why HLC required a candidacy requirement and Middle States was very slow to approve and then once they found out DCEH wasn't honest with them about the ACICS schools, they no longer trust.
I wonder if that's what HLC was onto and so refused to accredit those schools.
DCEH is non-profit but the DOE never approved a transfer of the schools to non-profit status.
It's unclear as to why the DOE never did. Title IV funds were being approved on a month to month basis only because of that.
Yes it is highly shady for all the admin to tell faculty and students that Ai was now non-profit when that wasn't the whole (and real) story
