Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Extended Summer Vacations

Some people are spending months in their home countries without any reason or a project. This extended “work from home” is not good for Sabre. Employees dissapearing in the summer months and their managers who approve thier requests shall be accountable.

This is bad practice, and bad for the company! What if the person disappearing is a she with the title Principal and managing 3 people. Is it OK if her Sr. Director boss approved her whereabouts for 2 months?

@TVbWROD-4ivu I’ve worked at many large companies. I’ve never seen this type of behavior deemed acceptable. Upper levels of line mgmt would axe not only the person slacking but probably that persons boss as well. (although the boss may get to parachute out). it does happen at Sabre in multiple groups and its very odd to see the culture at sabre as accepting to it at the mid levels. Especially while layoffs still continue. The burner email recommendation was very smart, i’d recommend that path as well.

All that said you should keep in mind, that while no one will know the source of the complaint. It doesnt mean that you wont be negatively impacted when those further up the chain find out there are slackers in your org. There is a strong risk that it will affect you as well. I get that you my not care, that you probably feel like how can it get worse since you are doing all the work anyway. but you need to fully understand the circle of life when uncovering the shadows at work.

It's called life in a large company. It isn't always fair for everyone. If you don't like it, get another job elsewhere. Be sure to mention in your interviews that you will be watching other employees to make sure you arent doing any more work than others. Grow up.

What if the person disseapering manages 3 people. While she is away “working from home” for an extended period, what happens to 3 direct reports? Is it fair for them? How about utilization of the team of 4?

This is such a soar post. Anyone doing such a thing will clearly get fired if they werent doing their job. It sounds like an arrangement between the managers and employees. We do have workforce all over the world. The way things are done in the USA does not dictate how it should be done all over by other cultures. If you are angry about it, then find a position that allows for such an arrangement. Otherwise, quit being a loser and keep wasting your life from 8-5 until you rot. Mind your own business unless it directly affects you and the work you need to deliver.

A team of 7 has a capacity of 560 hours per payday. If a team member is MIA it's now a team of 6 with a capacity of 480 hours per payday. If the manager pays 7 people for 560 hours per payday but only gets 480 hours of work accomplished then eventually that manager's manager should notice. If they don't notice then use a burner email to anonymously inform them of the problem. If that does not solve the problem then go higher in the chain of command until it is solved. We cannot afford that inefficiency nor the resentment it causes. It must be corrected.

How do you know they are paid? Are you HR? Do you know what FMLA is? Mind your own vindaloo.

There are some people lost for 2-3 months. Thet get paid, but they do not produce anything. Is that normal?

@TVbWROD-1gah of course its the teams business. The rest of the team has to pick up the slack and if its consistent that means the team will start to burn out. Which will only make things worse for the team. This thread may be pointing to individuals. Ultimately the team pays the price. How long the team is willing to do that before they push back is the question. If lower mgmt wont address it, it doesnt mean higher mgmt wont.

Where are these jobs where people can slack off while working from home? I work from home on Fridays and I start work sooner and end later than when I go to the office since there is no commute. My team is the same way. Email is answered, IMs get answered, work is done. If we didn't do the work, it would back up. Please tell me what positions are available where people can go unnoticed for a day.

Everyone doesn't get the same amount of vacation. Some get 2 weeks and some get 5. Some get an extra 8 weeks by "working" from home every Friday. Some "work" from home more than half of the year. Some only "work" whether they are in the office or not.

Some people work really hard at home and get stuff done. Some don't. If they get away with only "working" at home or in the office it's because the management chain isn't doing their job. In that case the management chain is only "working" too.

I agree it is up to the Manager and the Employee but it only works when the Manager is strong enough to ensure it is fair and the traveling employee does their share of work with no delay. I have seen cases where the employee cannot connect for different reasons while abroad so if I was the Manager then I would demand that those become PTO days. If the employee was in HDQ with the same issues then they would have to drive in.......it is that easy but yet again Sabre does not build strong Managers.

Everyone gets the same amount of vacation in Sabre. If someone takes more and works from home that is between them and their manager. It is not of your f---ng business.
