Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

Even before the merger, DST had drastically changed

I agree with all of the sentiments in all the threads. Even before the SS&C merger, DST had drastically changed from the days of the Toms. Of course we all work for a paycheck, but DST used to answer to its shareholders, while still valuing its employees and creating a KC home-grown company.

Similarly, Boston Financial was also an excellent company that provided long-term

Jobs for many employees.

Fast forward: Toms gone, industry changes and a merger and acquisition later, it has all changed. I’m sad about all of the careers lost - and there will be more changes. This website has layoff threads about HUNDREDS of companies, not just DST. It’s the unfortunate reality in which we live.

All of that said, I don’t mind being one of the few to indicate that amongst all the chaos and sadness today, the leader of our organization gave a very positive message after the “event” that was probably not easy to deliver. He was honest, sincere, and aware of the sensitivity of his organization. As I listened to him, I was reminded that no matter what, there are great leaders who actually care about people. For me, that’s what creates loyalty.

The smart ones got out before the layoff. The dumb ones stuck around thinking they were safe. No one is safe. SSC is hellbent on destroying DST and they don't give a damn about any of the associates in flyover country. The SSC east coast snobs are not worth your while to stay. They don't care about you or your family's well being. They think you will suffer pay cuts, lay offs, benefits cuts, and then come begging back for your jobs because you have no other options. Only a fool or a loser will play in Bill Stone's Casino of Fools.

DST was a horrible place to work.

I level a little over a year ago. I was on an overworked, understaffed team servicing an abusive client. We had a wonderful boss who did a good job, but he got canned for sticking up for his team when said abusive client was being unreasonable about projects. The new manager was your typical DST yes-man, and while he tried to make things better, ultimately you can't do much when the company doesn't give you anything to work with.

So I got on LinkedIn, started networking, and over time spoke with many recruiters. Leaving DST and taking on a new job netted me a 15% raise. (Which for most ends up being 7 or 8 years' worth of merit increases.)

DST treated good people like garbage. If you haven't found something better, do so. All of that uncertainty and an annual 1.5% pay increase are not worth it.

The best people started leaving before the buyout. They pieced together something and made a decision.
