Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

How do you deal with stress (work related)?

The continuous threat of layoffs hanging over us is stressing me out very much that it is affecting my health. I am having some trouble sleeping, my blood pressure is higher than I'd like it to be, and my concentration is shot to hell.

Not that the management cares, of course. Anyhow, I was wondering how do you deal with all this stress? Any secret trick that helps you stay calm?

It's a toxic environment. If you're emotionally sensitive start applying for other jobs now. I was there for 10 years and it was toxic the whole time, but worse in the end. I switched careers and am so much happier now! Get out.

Know that your job does not define you.

Jobs come and go, there are no guarantees for how long any job will last.

Talk with friends and make the most of the time you have away from work.

Most importantly, stay off of negative and relatively fact-less blogs like this one. It is not real, no one is giving names, no one is citing sources, and people are purposefully trying to create stress and drama. If there is a layoff, DCEH will give you a call. If they do, you’ll get severance pay, benefits and have time to look for something better for you.

Control what you can control. If you're admissions it's 1 student at a time and wrapping them up. If it's finance your job is to help new students first. If it's academics just again control what you can control and work big to small.

Also like people have said see your doc and get some anxiety meds. Half the floor is on them anyway and many people just in the world.

At worst if this place is just too much use your PTO to go on job interviews.

Tip #1 - if it becomes overwhelming see a doctor and get the medication - do not gamble and delay, take care of it - things like this can be dangerous

Tip #2 - do whatever helps lower the stress level, different job, relationship, exercise, food - whatever works - do it

Good luck - I know how hard it can get

Eating plant-based diet could help with anxiety, blood-flow and palpitations type issues.

I used to work at DeVry. Same problems. Two things really helped:

  1. Saw my doctor and got on anti-anxiety meds.

  2. Got a different job. It took a very long time because of DV’s poor reputation. And I took a pay cut but I got on a yearly employment contract vs. a daily one, if you know what I mean.

I am sorry for what you are going through and wish you well.
