TL:DR..Coffee talk instills yet more distrust. Mass exodus deemed unworthy of correction.
Was recently involved in a coffee talk with someone SVP and above. Not going to say who or exactly when as I’m sure big brother could narrow down who is posting this. But suffice to say it was in the last week and with a newer member of that elite tribe.
We entered the meeting some hesitations in regards to leadership. With all the questions asked and “candid responses” we received, the majority of us left with disappointment. We realized that our leadership team is utterly lost and our longterm vision is quite blurry.
We have a company that we like to compare ourselves to, starts with an E and ends with a G. The question was along lines of what are they doing that we are not since they are so good. The response was they are doing 180 different than we are but we feel they are completely wrong. Man. Boy oh boy. That company has a model that works from the E&P side to the support side, yet we feel ours is better??? And to take such offense to that question and blatantly say “if you don’t want to be at Devon we don’t need you” you truly are setting a prime example to your employees.
C suite execs, you really need to question and criticize your SVP level. Are they adding value? As it seems they are good at taking MySpace angle videos and wearing custom suits to large. Is this yet another insulating later we need?? Do we really want someone with that much power that tells a room full of technical staff “don’t let the door hit you on the way out”??? Where is the integrity wheel
