Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

DSTHS KCMO

How many were let go from 710 Central? What was tour severance package like? Who told you? I lot people brag about wanting to get laid off, what couldn't those people volunteer to be laid off? Unemployment is capped at $ 320 per week.

"Are they paying your whole insurance premium for 6 months."

No. They are giving you a few thousand dollars to cover what they would have paid while you were employed. It might cover 3.5 months Cobra.

Are they paying your whole insurance premium for 6 months. I read the original document as they would pay you in cash what the DST cost (contribution) for your would have been. Huge difference. Be ready for a shock when you start shopping for insurance. I’ve seen insurance premiums of $1500+ a month for health insurance. Especially if you live in MO.

@TR1Rp5N-mgk Comment about option to buy in was untrue. At the headquarters in KC, that was not offered. A few in Financial services have been given a 2- or 3- month notice, they can either try to find another job within DST, or take their severance package then. I personally met that qualification of 70 years, so that’s just not true that it was offered. Many people would have taken it if offered.

Good luck with drawing unemployment from DST. I was laid off in 2008 and they fought to give it to me and after 6 months I finally was able to draw unemployment. I was there three years and got 6 weeks of severance.

If your years worked at DST and age equal 70, you had the option to opt in.

It may be questionable how the severance pay would affect unemployment calculations. In most states, if you receive 6 months severance pay, you don’t qualify for unemployment for six months. Apparently Missouri (as they say on their web site), does not consider severance pay for unemployment purposes. Some have noted here they think that has changed to be more like the other states. That sounds like a reasonable approach. Unemployment is to help when your income stops. If you get a severance package, technically your income has not stopped. You will still be entitled to it - it is just delayed for awhile.
