Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Isn't Ecommerce why this company is failing

Isn't Ecommerce the reason this company is failing? You can go to Amazon or Walmart and pretty much get anything you want. It is mostly third party items but you can still get them there. Try to do that with staples not possible. Are they even trying to fix this or not? Or is Sycamore just trying to get as much profit out of the company as it can and sell it off in pieces?

Doing a quick check on mobile and staples.com, it looks like the CTO has still not executed a cloud strategy.

They did have one but it keeps changing.. first AMAZON then AZURE..

As a happy customer, I still like the Staples brick and mortar. Yes you can buy much online but, for office supplies, it is faster for me Just to walk in. It would never occur to me to buy furniture in a Staples and I find it annoying and space consuming. I would prefer to see more options on things like printers, as an example. I feel like buying one at Staples would not expose me to the one I really might want but not know it. I still want customer service in a store and Staples no longer has that. If I have to do all the research on my own to get all my questions answered, I might as well buy online and save the gas.

Yes sycamore is attempting to fix this along with many other things that are broken within out IT infrastructure. Some changes will impact how employees work by giving us tools from third parties instead of trying to build everything in-house and others will be focused on the customer experience. Staples is a dinosaur and Sycamore is well aware of this so they know it's an uphill climb to growth and understand the need to make changes. There will be a new buying experience for customers latest by Q2 of FY2019. You can't just flip a switch, relationships need to be developed with third parties, customer contract plan pricing needs to worked out, and everything else that happens outside of e-commerce needs to be figured out before moving forward with this change.
