Did we just survive layoff week without a layoff ?

Student housing was still a significant part of our program but I agree, it had diminished over the years. The deletion of student housing hit schools in varying degrees. Still, as an aggregate, I suspect it was enough to delay any further layoffs in the short term.
The real knock on effect will be that future students, once denied housing, will simply not come. This in itself will generate further cuts in staff and faculty and we'll start to feel the effects in the next couple of months.

I doubt student housing made much of a dent in our budget. The numbers on our campus were down to a handful living in the dorms. No support staff off campus. Dorms have never been a big player at AI. We have an older students population who already have living situations before entering college...and the younger ones tend to be living longer at home.
And why would we need cuts if the colleges are nonprofit now? No debt payments, no taxes...where is the money going, clearly not back into the campus at the moment.
Cutting out student housing and all the staff involved may have qualified as cost cutting for the year.
Bleed the students dry then close the doors.

Uh, no, the layoff person was laid off. They were going to hire someone to replace them, but there's a hiring freeze - What's a struggling for-profit, turned non-profit (either way, not making any profit) to do?
