I am from Qualcomm India Private Limited, Hyderabad. This place is a torture. Believe me, a recent college graduate is much smarter than many more than 10 years experienced here. Sometimes I feel, employees at Qualcomm Hyderabad are overpaid.

I feel like I'm living to work, not working to live.

I'm also a millennial and I have mix feelings about the company. On the one hand, I did learn to play the political game and advance my career. The skills I gained will be useful at any large company and so, while it's very stressful at times, I'm grateful to have had the opportunity. On the other hand, the culture can be very toxic and layoffs never seem to impact Directors and VPs who repeatedly fail to deliver. I also worry about the direction the company is headed, the rollercoaster ride of news, and whether we'll be able to withstand the many challenges we face at present.

my 2 cents for the new grad on

advance often do so by getting really good at the politics

you cannot avoid politics, no matter where you go. get used to it and learn to play it. otherwise, be in peace with yourself, you will be left on the margins

good luck

Another honest answer: I view Q as a place I am uncomfortable placing my long term hopes and dreams in. I think opportunity for career advancement is limited and I think those that advance often do so by getting really good at the politics of it all instead of providing a positive benefit to the company. The culture is terrible. The grass is always greener, but I truly do look forward to someday work for a different company that invests at least a little into making the employees feel like they are valued

honest answer from a millenial/relatively new grad: i am unhappy and tense here. i feel out of place, especially in meetings and it has been extremely difficult to pick up on the lingo and procedures used by the higher ranking employees . I'm grateful for having been given the opportunity but looking to leave soon to pursue something that makes me happier even if i make substantially less money than i am paid here

Retire by 50

Omaha-based brokerage firm T.D. Ameritrade asked 1,500 millennials, age 21 to 37, when they expect to retire. The respondents, on average, expected to retire at age 56.

The older generation(s) is what made Qualcomm a world class company (a declining one, but still world class) - It's going to take blood, sweat, tears and quite a bit of smartness of Millennials to get the company back to where it once was...
