Thread regarding NXP layoffs

RF BU - Chandler AZ

Chandler AZ, also have seen layoffs in the RF BU - down 19% in last quarter and getting worse. Cutting into the bone now after several other layoffs and attrition. I can't see any upside for that BU. Clemmer doesn't like it and the GM has done a bad job ie.. has done nothing and is going down with the ship. So all sorts of questions floating around like, who is next? (because its not getting better) and what will QCom make of it when they see some of the no hope projects? Or will they sell it to the lowest bidder? A few of us think that maybe Sumitomo or Wolfspeed have now taken #1 spot in the market but its hard to know as we no longer see numbers in the town halls. Basically lots of managers need to go as there are no engineers left in many areas.

the GM has done a bad job? I think the tendency in NXP is that when we go into a downturn, they cut staff, even if the unit is profitable. Downturns always happen, in other jobs I've had they cut perks and things but if the unit is still profitable but not growing then you don't mess it up, you wait it out, or you bring people in. In DN though and I think maybe RF the GM's have done a bad job because if your job is to get growth and you can't get it, it really doesn't matter if you or I or the average DN employee couldn't think of what they would do differently to make it grow, That't not their job, or their pay grade. I'd run for office if the bar was that low. What is supposed to happen is the company is supposed to hire people in who can get it done. In DN it has been a group of back protecting guys on 'save ourselves' lockdown that people were sacrificed to keep it that way. Now, surprise, there is not a lot left.

It's easy to say "the GM has done a bad job". What would you have done? I also rant against the managers and executives, but when I ask myself if I could do better, most of the time the answer is no. Now granted, I don't have a MBA.
