Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Anyone Challenging Their Termination?

I want a reason why I was put on the list. I had a good performance review and think it is because of my age. Im feeling emboldened. Get ready HR for some EEOC action.

If you were on the old pension plan and over 30, you will most likely get canned sometime this year. With or without package. Sorry.

Good luck finding an attorney willing to take your case on a contingency basis.

True, a reason is not needed. However, at will does not mean an employer can use age, gender, race, religion, or national origin as a determining factor..that is termed a "bad cause". Also, you have some time before signing an agreement and returning it to HR.

It is alarming to hear the general ignorance about the term "at will" and "no cause" in today's environment.

Pretty sure if you signed your walking papers you waived your rights anyway.

I think it might be hard to prove too even though most were over 50 in 2016 layoffs

This is Oklahoma. An ‘at-will” state. They don’t need a reason.

I understand your concerns about ageism being a factor. Getting ready to hit 50 and its been on my mind as well. I feel its going to be a hard thing to prove tho. :( But hey thats just my thoughts on it. You feel you got a good enough case, I say go for it. :)
