Thread regarding CA Technologies (CA Inc.) layoffs

What about the jobs being created?

What are the chances those who are about to be laid off will be offered one of the 500-600 jobs that CA Technologies is creating at the same time?

Or is this a way to get rid of the employees who have been with the company the longest and replace them with much cheaper younger workers?

They said they are not getting rid of remote workers. They wouldn't say something like that only to turn around and get rid of everyone. While you can't always trust management, it seems highly unlikely that they would respond to that question if that was the plan. We will see what happens, but many companies are moving away from "work from home" people and bringing people back to the office. Google and high performing companies take this approach.

It seems to me this is just a not-so-sneaky way of getting rid of remote employees. If you're remote, and laid off, you're NOT welcome to apply for any of the new jobs, Mike just said on the call. Guess we'll find out at some point very soon.

Is it true h1b workers have to fill 100k a year jobs?

The jobs that are being reduced are Sales and Services. The new jobs are in development and digital sales. It's unlikely someone in field sales could or would take a digital sales job. To someone else's point above, it's a way to replace field sales with a less expensive model and the news today really explicitly states that.

Let’s not forget foreign h1b workers. My office wall was plastered with dozens of notices.

Sounds like a good plan if you are compensated on margins.
