Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

This is no way to live

This constant stress and not knowing if I'll have a job the next day, always wondering if the layoffs are coming this week or the next, spending weekends worried instead of relaxing...

This is no way to live. I really wish higher-ups at DST would realized what they are doing to us. And even if they know and don't care, having a workforce that is always stressed out and with morale so low can't be good for business.

I'm personally this close to simply quitting, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

It is a terrible way to live, waiting and worrying about who is going to get laid off.

I can't even think about starting a family or buying a house when I don't know if I'll have a job.

What makes you think people are either too afraid or too lazy to look for other jobs? I think most of the people in our company see the writing on the wall and have READ it. You're certainly not the only one looking for another job and there are plenty of people who have contingency plans, although they may differ from yours. Would you suggest someone with 30 years tenure who is close to retirement just get up and walk out the door tomorrow, when they may get laid off in the near future? What about an expectant mother? It doesn't seem like an ideal situation to be interviewing for a new job when you're 6 months pregnant? What about the person who wants to change careers or start their own business, maybe waiting for a severance package would provide them with a little cushion to help make that transition. Still others may be trying to stick this out in hopes of having a better career with SS&C. Everybody's situation is different & none of us know the reasons some people may be waiting to see how this plays out. People should consider being more empathetic towards their fellow co-workers. I agree with the original poster. Morale is low and any major life changing event brings with it some stress and uncertainty (regardless of the size of your bank account, whether you have an interview lined up tomorrow or whether you have some other backup plan).

What happened to looking for a better job? Honestly, I've had many jobs where layoffs were on the horizon, due to stock market correction back in 2008 and two others that had mergers like this one. Each time I successfully moved to a better company, better job. Not sure why so may are so afraid to look for a better job?! Sounds like most of you are just lazy and don't want change or to have to do the work entailed in getting a better job, i.e., the interviews, etc. I've got my back up plans and I am continuing to interview at places that I've applied to. Why are people at this company so adamant about staying and complaining? If you don't have a fat bank account to live off, you should all definitely be looking and getting your resumes in the hands of recruiters. You have all seen the writing on the wall. READ!!!

Many of us at Boston Financial have been dealing with this stress and uncertainty for well over a year now. I agree that morale is terrible. Hopefully SS&C makes decisions quickly.

This is how it works for all of us! If you have been here for long enough, take advantage of the severance and hope to find a job within 3 months. You should be good, no need to stress it too much

Thats what they want you to do. They dont want to pay the severance. Just get something lined up in case you do get laid off. I know I have something lined up and have a plan B C and D.
