Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

The worst part about getting laid off...

Is having to continue to work with the Enbridge HR department. I feel like I should be getting paid for this sh--. Their incompetence is so great, that I no longer work there, and it's still haunting me.

Check your accounts boys and girls, seems like they've raided the Londonberry Middle School for their latest round of hires in the HR department. Just another part of Al's 24-prong plan to save Enbridge money - turns out, without high school educations, they'll work for half the price! Brilliant! Give that man a 13% raise.

I believe we have high school grads but didn’t know anyone in a manager position. I have dealt with a lot of proessionals like engineers and once in na while I can tell if I am dealing with one who has no degree coz the level of insecurity with dealing with work really shows. I can’t blame them, they probably won’t be able l to compete in a job market these days where most positions that pays good money requires college degree, professional affiliations and enormous work experience. Even with postings for staff positions requires professional designation.

I agree with last post, some people at enbridge do not qualify to be in certain technical positions that require technical judgment and knowledge. I dont think experience will alone will qualify Them to take on technical liabilities if things go wrong.

i guess some haters that work at enbridge and has no qualificarion are not feeling secure. If they are booted out from enbridge no one will hire them with just experience. Old days are gone, may be you are smart and managed to climb to a position becuase of your network a- - licking skills but this does not make you qualified especially with professions that require licenincing

Smart(ness) and intelligence are two different things. My grandfather was a farmer that only had a grade 7 education and he wasn’t smart in a lot of things but he was one of the most intelligent people I have ever known.

Don't be haters! There are many people that only have HS that are very qualified. Just because you have a piece of paper doesn't mean you are smarter and more qualified. Experience makes you qualified. And attitude for success. JS

It seems you are the one crying. Its OK if you dont have degree you can still get some job out there but it will not be a manager or engineer. Things changed now and having a degree or college diploma is demanded more and more, not like the old days where people with even no high school become managers.

Quit your crying. The industry and this company has been hiring people without a college education since the beginning. The truth of the matter is that most careers within the oil and gas industry can be done without a college education. Even upper management job duties can be learned with OJT. We have seen time and time again that you don't need business degree to be a successful in business. You also do not need a technical degree to be successful in a technical position. Same goes for just about every other career area within the industry, College doesn't prove what you know or what you are capable of. It does prove many other things, but you ability is not one. Grow your knowledge and keep learning. If not, someone that is hungry will. Your complaints are invalid.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

Drive+Experience+ Positive Attitude = Success.

Which are you lacking?

There are many employees who are technical managers or involved in technical roles and have no post secondary education, or even a trades certificate.

I am just going to comment on high school grads being hired - this is not the first time I had heard it and some were really confirmed especially when there were so much projects going on. I had seen high school grads being hired on non technical roles like admin, project coordinators, and other entry level non technical roles. Some of them had took courses paid by company and I think it is ok that they are being given a chance as they are not really going to work on something that would impact how the pipelines are operated.
