Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Management is a huge problem.

It seems like the majority of people on this site and around Staples think that management is a big issue. Do you agree? Lets use this thread to discuss what has changed and what are some of the major differences or problems you see. Would love to hear some solid feedback from people who have been here over 10 years and have seen the good AND the bad first hand.

The management in our area is awful. There is way to many mid management level and they all use their employees against each other to get their team ahead. Even if it's based on lies. You don't need managers with 2 or 3 people under them. Especially when the managers don't do a thing all day.

The idea that someone has to work for Staples for 10 years to be listened to is exactly the problem. The majority of the company is stuck on the old days and stamps their feet and screams and yells against any thing or anyone that suggests perhaps the market conditions have changed and that they need to evolve.

I disagree that management is a huge problem. There are just as many issues with co-workers/employees as there are with management.

I already commented about this on another thread so i will copy and paste it here because it's incredibly relevant:

"One hole we could patch is the level of toxicity management has created at this company. I think that the first step in doing that would be to get the Indians out of management positions. I know it's very easy to call me racist for thinking this and i admit i am generalizing, but you have to consider the culture changes Indian people in management positions are bringing to the company. It would be ignorant to deny that people from a different country operate and bring a different mentality to the office. Many people who i have spoken to feel like they are just another faceless resource or piece in the generation of revenue. They don't feel special, important or valued in any sense of the word. That feeling to me is a huge indication of failure on the side of management. A big piece of being a successful manager is keeping your team happy and motivated while still completing goals. I understand the company needs to make money and that this is also a major piece to the puzzle, but so is valuing and maintaining employees. In this sense it creates a reputation for working at Staples which in my opinion is in a massive downward spiral. Many people won't admit this is how they feel because of course they are maintaining that professional barrier and protecting themselves. Which is understandable, However word does travel and the general conscientious seems to be the same at least in my area."

I love people who try to discredit the site. The site is an open forum for discussion, rumors will be rumors wherever you go. The people who want to protect themselves are the ones who keep pushing to discredit the site or peoples opinions. Keep that in mind when your reading peoples posts about how management is succeeding or everything is fine within the company. Its obvious their failing, its obvious the company is on rocky grounds.

There is no discussion . The 2 people that write everything here should take a break . Who cares ?

And what people thought this site was valuable ? Huh ? The only value here is entertainment .

Oh, and learning how NOT to spell and write and construct sentences correctly.

Anyone who understands anything about Staples knows the company ceased to be a great organization when Tom Stemberg went on to do other things . Period .

most want to be deceived. they bought the lies from Ron on new tech direction, the OD merger, from Faisel dude, from Shira's red shirts, about the private buyout, and about what's next. and various management layers are okay with lying about it all so they keep their jobs and maybe even trick themselves into their own lies.

you ask when anyone lied.

i ask when did they ever tell the truth?

or... let's not

Also, I like my manager. I know of as many good managers as bad. Like any company. I don't agree with your premise and I am always right.

Good luck in your mission though. Info received on this whine line won't be biased or anything.
