Thread regarding Kmart layoffs

Inventory...

An email was left on the print with dates for inventory. Most of the stores within our district (Ohio/WV/Kentucky) are slotted for a late May through early June inventory date. However, our store and 3 others, are slotted for late August dates. Our store manager is freaking out because late/delayed inventory count dates usually mean store closure. Should we be worried with the upcoming closing announcements?

My store’s inventory was set for a date early then usual. We always have had inventory in August, now it is set for June? Everyone has said it’s bad if they push the date back, but what if they make it earlier then it has been in a decade? Seems weird to me.

Thanks. I'm a former long time employee of Kmart and Meldisco, mainly in Ohio, so I keep tabs on this.

There are so few Kmarts left in both Ohio and West Virginia. The store locator is inaccurate but to my knowledge, these are the Kmarts that are still open:

OH ( 12 ) - Fostoria, Grove City, Chillicothe, Marietta, Harrison, Barberton, Brunswick, East Liverpool, Middleburg Heights, Tallmadge, North Canton, Cleveland ( on Broadview )

WV ( 4 ) - both Charleston locations, Scott Depot, Elkview

It is unusual to have a inventory date deviate from its normal schedule at a store, and could well signal a potential closing; however, I would be much more alarmed if the inventory itself was cancelled.

Until the DM shows up and personally informs the manager of a pending closing, it is of little use to worry about the situation. Good luck, and I hope your store remains open.

The list of inventory dates was for Kmart stores. The late stores are in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia. My store (Fostoria, OH - 9096) was one of the late stores. We've normally had inventory in May or June, and our store is scheduled for a mid-August date.

Who are the late stores, and is this Kmart only or both Sears and Kmart?
