Bass pro ran a ad in the wall street journal at a cost of more then 100 thousand dollars to try and attract business to Sidney to rent one of their buildings for one dollar a year. I think this action by the city council in regard to the purchase of the building at the golf course is going to have a very negative reactions in regard to any potential business moving to Sidney. What I would like to see done is a open discussion on this issue in open session and not behind close doors where very little information is released to the pubic. If you look at the comments of even the supporter of this deal has the tone THIS IS A BAD DEAL FOR THE CITIZENS OF SIDNEY but we have to go along with it because of a previous agreement. My suggestion is to explore if the citizens of Sidney have to go along with (the supporter of this sale call it a bad deal for Sidney) deal and I have complete faith in the one council man who voted against this deal. I think what should be done is more discussion on this issue and hopefully all parties can come up with a deal which isn't behind close doors and which is good for the citizens of Sidney. By doing so I think this will also send out a message to potential businesses which may locate in Sidney . Sidney Nebraska is moving in a new direction in where the council is open to everyone and working hard to protect the interest of the city of Sidney.

I am almost sure you could get several businesses to locate in if the city of Sidney would be willing to enter into contracts with the potential businesses to use the same logic which has been used with the businesses which have operated at the golf course.
Why would any outside business want to come here? The town offers nothing to them but a subpar workforce at best. No entertainment for the young folks. As a retiree I see this town turning into a quiet community with low crime and a great hospital.

LOL! Touche.
There are no Papa Johns in Sidney, so we don't care.
Since this site is no longer used for discussing possible layoffs at Cabela's (succumbed to discussing the local issues of concern to Sidney, NE), did everyone hear that Peyton Manning sold his shares of Papa John's franchises?
Apparently Meth is big in Sidney now that Cabela’s has pulled out judging by some of these disjointed posts.
The original poster...doesn't have the intellect to understand this ship has sailed!
Yep, you've nailed it with that statement. Guess what, this might come as a shock I know, but the BP corp headquarters isn't in the little slice of he!! in Nebraska. So no, they don't really give a rip about local politics because they've moved on and I suggest you do the same
Let me get this right . Sidney Nebraska has one if the highest tax rates in the united states and I guess bass pro or Cabela's isn't concerned about local government decisions which may effect the tax requirements required from them. right?
Sidney Ne-WHAT
Sigh....lots of words about Sidney, but nothing about how many more Cabela's jobs will be lost or remain in Sidney.
This board is about CABELAS layoffs. Not potential jobs that may come to Sidney, if the building sale is good for Sidney, city council business, Wall Street Journal ads.
Ask yourself......how does the sale of this building affect job losses or affect Bass Pros decision to retain employees?
Answer: it doesnt.
