Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

Aberdeen is dying the place is a joke these days.

With over 1700 redunancys just in Aberdeen the last 5 weeks, all drilling and service companys how can anyone say things are better.

BHGE shares stop falling as not enough work to take on staff after 65% pay offs??

Aberdeen is like a ghost town, house prices still falling though the floor, never seen so many hpuses for sale year on year.

Even big compaines like Merc are shutting up shop and moving out the place is finished.

Property market is red hot. We bought a decent home in Rubislaw Den for 800k and just sold it to some American for 2.5m!

Aberdeen is the Riviera of Northern Europe. House prices have stabilized- hard to find anything decent for less than 1 mill. The only blot on the horizon is the new sugar tax which is set to greatly increase the price of Irn Bru. And as a previous poster mentioned, we have a great golf course with lots of holes.

I was laid off 2 years ago and no got a taxi and very busy right now. Also just bought a brand new luxury flat in stoneywood at a great price reduction but still expensive compared to other cities. Let’s face it house priced in Aberdeen 3 years ago were more expensive than London and now is a good time to buy before things get really busy again. My wife is a lecturer at Aberdeen uní and places are as competitive as ever so you may have to go to Glasgow if you want your kids educated. We also have a buy to let flat in old Aberdeen and it’s never been empty with all the demand from students. I agree with the rich American this is a great city to live and quality of life is second to none. There are more millionaires in Aberdeen than any other city in Scotland and that’s why the SNP will never win up here. We don’t need all that socialist independence propaganda. If you see a propert for less than value then buy it now or you will regret it

6 houses in my street for sale with two of them for over 2 years now.

Over 100k down on what was first advertised for and still not selling.

The place is gone.

My son removed his uni application to get one in Glasgow as the place is dead.

Roll on selling up and leaving this sxxt hole of a city.

I was transferred to Aberdeen 6 months ago from Houston and my family and I just love this place. It’s got a real business buzz about it right now. We just bought a $ 2 million house in Rubislaw Den reduced from $ 3 million and already had an offer to sell it for 2.5 million and we ain’t gonna do that.

This town is the global center for sub sea technology and the salaries are great while business is really taking off again. You can get home finance at very low interest rates and boy do they have great golf courses over here. If there is a downside to Aberdeen it’s the people - they are so friendly and happy you will want to stay forever which we are now planning to do. Just love it.

Aberdeen hoose prices will never rocket again. They will increase in line with the national increase. The big oil companies will pull out and leave the smaller ones to mop up what is left in the North Sea.

House prices are doing fine in aberdeen and the money is coming back. Some big investments just announced and the hotel rooms are full of private equity guys buying up assets. Now is a good time to buy property in aberdeen before it rockets again. Recommended area is the west end and kingswells

I juts bought a flat in the west end at a knock down price and got it rented out within a week at a great price
