Thread regarding University of Phoenix layoffs

What I see; what others see

I think there are two sides here. One side is the capital group thinking it is putting together a sale where the the organization will be snapped up by a buyer; the other side is thinking the organization will go out of business. The latter is what I see.

Which is it, really?

They didn't say. I was laid off, not fired.

What was the reason they let you go? They have to have a paper trail.

I had over 20 enrollments the month they let me go. I think they purposely laid off top performers, because they want to fail and they want to sell. I guess it's their business. They can do what they want with it.

What other company has 4-5 layoffs each year? None. They all went out of business. This company reminds me of a mortgage company waiting to implode.

You’re all a little crazy... the ship isn’t burning. Sure new enrollment are down but total enrollment is above estimates and still profitable overall. Calm down

The company will not make it to sale. Definitely bankruptcy ahead for us. We are limping to 4th quarter.

It’s obvious to everyone here working with the systems, the students, the leads and resources that we are crashing and burning quickly. Upper management is unaware and they truly believe we can be sold. But our reputation cannot be restored. That’s a fact. A s---er is born every minute, so maybe we can be sold, but I doubt that. We haven’t been profitable in years, even with massive layoffs and shedding costs.

This is true to a point. I think they bought it to make a ton of money but didn’t think this ship is sinking as bad. We were too heavy so it looked great. But they will still make money, just s---s for all the families this will hurt. The real question is what level of ethics do they have.

It is neither. UoP is a used car being torn up and liquidated piece by piece to finance million dollar parachutes and equity cash-outs for Peter and his corporate buddies. Rest of the folks are numbers to be sliced and diced in their leveraged buyout excel sheet. In the meantime, the Pres. writes nice tweets about skillsgap and helping students
