Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

Is this the final nail in the coffin of the city of Sidney. http://www.ksidradio.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=37&id=262609#.WrwWR0xFyaE

I have been a very positive supporter of all of Cheyenne county and Cabela's for years. However this action by the city of Sidney just seems like their isn't any hope for the city of Sidney any more.

Seriously! All you Sidney folks go start a blog and complain on there about your crap hole town. This site was meant for info about the company as a whole not about the gossip for your little pathetic town.

Focus, people. What is the name of this message board? I'll give you a hint, it's not the "who owns the golf course" message board.

At one time there was a small chance to find important information about the company here. No more. Now its just a gossip site for Sidney. I'm done with this site.

I really think this is a very important issue which should be discussed at open council meetings. The residents of Sidney should know the parties involved and the details of this agreement and the previous agreement concerning the golf course. I wonder if the details of this agreement or the previous agreement would have been approved by the council if the discussion on this issue would have been done in open council meetings.

If I remember correctly when the country club was torn down -a fire extingusher place that was supposed to be located at the airport demonstrated use of equipment.

FYI - The initial founding members of Hillside Ventures LLC were U.S. Aprons, Inc. (a local Sidney textile manufacturer) and Keith Nienheuser (of Nienheuser Construction). Both Mr. Nienheuser and David Mowery (President of U.S. Aprons, Inc. were the initial Managers of the LLC. It was Mr. Nienheuser & Mr. Mowery who had the power and authority to conduct the affairs of the LLC. The most recent registered agent of the LLC was Bob Volkmer (Points West Bank).

The timing is empeciable, the economic situation in out community is becoming more dire by the day and suddenly the city has to 'purchase' this property because a previously negotiated contract,.

Well played. So typical of what our community has turned into a far cry from what it used to be.

This decision by the council has nothing to do what is best for the citizens of Sidney. As you can tell my the council policy to discuss this purchase in close door meetings and not to discuss this extremely important in any details with the pubic . The city manager and council decisions is based 100 percent on what is best for the 30 investors. YES THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE CITY MANAGER SOLD OUT THE CITIZENS OF SIDNEY AND HAS FOCUS ON ENTIRELY WHAT IS BEST FOR THE 30 INVESTORS.

Why didn't they reach out to Bass and take over some of the old Cabela's buildings. Probably would have been cheaper.

Unfortunately according to a lease that was signed between the city of Sidney and Hillside Ventures L.L.C. the city was stuck buying it. As far as the city continuing to serve alcohol, they have owned it in the past and served alcohol. Many small communities where the village/city own the local golf course serve alcohol. Not all of the investors in Hillside Ventures are/were big Cabela's hot shots. A number of them are long time residents of the community with money.

As a taxpayer in Sidney don’t I have a right to know the people who the city of Sidney is buying a business from for almost 300 thousand from. Shouldn’t this proposed purchase be discussed in a open forum instead of secretly where the public isn’t aware of the details of the purchase?

I'm betting the 30 investors were all Cabela's employees, past and present. The former mayor with a luxury house on the golf course was one them.

Another project that doesn’t make sense is spending 700,000 of grant money to close off 10th street for a park. How many businesses downtown are going to survive.i wish I had the money that the city is spending . Oh right the taxpayers or whoever is left will foot the bill for these projects and others the city has planned.

This is the first time I have seen a comment added to the story. It stated on ksid"pdate 3/28/2018 5PM: "Alcohol will also still be offered," added to 6th paragraph." This story even get more sad. This is perhaps the saddest day in the history of Sidney. I have just came from a business who the owner stated she said her goodbyes to 17 customers in the last few days. I have talked with homeowners who are wondering what is going to happened to their future dreams of being able to retire some day. I have talked to people who are wondering if their is someway they can afford health insurance for their family. Now I read how the city of Sidney is going to buy a small building for 296 thousand to sell beer and snacks. Honesty how can any business in the united states ever want to locate in a town with this type of policy of the local government.
