Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM and Honeywell could be the same company -

Have any of you checked out the Honeywell layoff board? As bad or worse than IBM. We need to band together and expose these horrible companies. The (bad) joke at Honeywell for years has been if you make it to 55 you’re lucky. Because after 50 you have a target on your back.

Sorry IBMers. Honeywell employees know what you are going through. We are on the same side.

I worked for both IBM and Honeywell and they both s---ed the life out of me! I hope they both go out of business, it's what they deserve. The management of both are terrible!

Just confirmed:

Was in a union for 25 yrs at Honeywell and when let go received:

It was 1 full year of severance, my bad. Honeywell paid for 2 yrs of college.

Their defined pension checks arrive direct deposit every month until they are deceased.

To pull same monthly amount till end of life expectancy a 401k would need to be at $523,000

So while not the best retirement fund in the world, its much better than the 2% match @ IBM.

Obviously you make a point that Honeywell did screw their employees in the end just like IBM.

The non union people were hosed, especially those with 19 yrs only.

Well the location closed in 97 I believe, but most were let go long before that.

(they moved to ABQ first, then to Mexico)

25 yrs of service, they received 9 months severance pay and Honeywell paid for their college.

I know several people who worked there and know for a fact that they all got the same deal or better depending on years of service.

@2bgj. The maximum severance you can get from Honeywell is 24 weeks. No matter how long you have been there. It’s been the same for 20 years at least. And I’m 20+ years as a Honeywell engineer I have never seen or heard of them paying for anyone’s schooling. Not sure what you mean by defined pension. I was there long enough to be grandfathered in to a pension plan but they stopped it years ago and it’s not nearly enough to live on. Unemployment pays more.

I always had high performance rankings and was laid off this month. At age 60. Of the layoff list sent to me, 90% were over 50.

Well I have family members receiving a "defined" pension from Honeywell after they were let go.

Plus Honeywell paid for 2 yrs of college along with 9 months of severance.

I don't see any IBMer getting a deal like that.

IBM gives 30 days severance now right? lol @ IBM
