I was over at the dental office in UTC (of all places, lol) and overheard in the booth next to me, the guy (forgot his name) is responsible for coordinating the QC layoff.
It is supposedly going to start in May in two stages, with the majority from engineering happening in the first wave. The second stage is mainly for cleanup, reduction in support staff after engineering RIFs and consolidation has occurred.
The half joke he was making was that perhaps if they didn't spend so much money on the new company signs on each of the campus buildings, then they could have saved some money...though from the sounds of it, the layoffs are going to be pretty substantial in engineering.
Good luck folks. on the positive note, looks like Intel and Amazon are still hiring in SD so that should be able to absorb a lot of the job losses. I'd get cracking on the interview before the RIFs start happening....especially if the US gets into a massive trade war that will make tech earnings in the next quarter even worse.
of course it's up you you whether you want to believe this post or not.
