Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Question: is it really worth it anymore?

I have not looked at thus site in a while because I was laid off from Devon back in Feb 2016, and it turned out to be the best thing to happen to me careerwise. It sounds like things have not improved at all and is probably even worse now than 2 yrs ago. It sounds like Devon is leading by threats and fear mongering, and it makes me have to ask, is anyone currently working there actually happy, or are you just there because you think it is the best job you can get? Please believe me when I say that Devon is NOT the Devon of old days, and you can probably throw a stone in any direction and find a job that actually treats you like they appreciate you as opposed to treating you like YOU are lucky to have THEM. I cant believe that people are still putting up with this. I was proud to work for Devon, but somewhere along the line they forgot that treating people with respect matters. Don't let Devon win, if enough people get out while they can, on their own terms, maybe it will wake them up, and make them remember that their $hit stinks just as bad if not worse than everyone else's. I know the fear of unknown is scary, but so is waking up everyday wondering if today is the day they waive you goodbye. You can stick around for the severance if that is a gamble you want to take, but remember that there are about to be hundreds of people looking for new jobs, so my advice would be get out now, and get a job that provides stability, satisfaction and appreciation. I hate it that Devon is still treating people this way after all these years, and I want the good people that work there to take control and show them they can't treat people this way. I am sorry for those who have to wake up to this everyday - I was there not long ago at all. PLEASE BELIEVE ME, THERE ARE BETTER PLACES TO WORK THAN THE "ALMIGHTY" DEVON. Besides, thay big glass peni$ in the sky probably won't be called the Devon tower much longer anyways. Good luck everyone, I am sorry so many of you all are still dealing with this ridiculousness.

'No truer words'....you do understand the difference between the words of "Polly" and "Mary" right? Maybe it was best you got out before they pushed you out.

Is it worth it anymore? Whoever wrote this-brilliant summation-you had to have been there in the early 2000’s. I started in 2007-rode the ups and downs-survived 10 years. The move to the new building changed everything-and you are right-we were lucky to have THEM-fear mongering-doing more with less. Devon is as cold as its marble floors-void of compassion-no longer a “work hard but have fun while you are doing it” kind of place-after the last mass layoffs, the almighty D was completely void of anything resembling the “Great Place To Work” days of old-rather than wait for my turn and a severance-I quit last year-for many reasons, one of which you mentioned-to get out ahead of the coming storm-take heart those who are facing yet another round-there is in fact life outside of Devon. My prediction, Devon will be bought out by a major within the next year or two-Polly Nichols was the only person standing in the way of a sale, and now she’s gone, RIP. Larry’s passion is in politics and lobbying in DC-this is far from over and it ends with Devon transitioning into an Exxon or BP.

I love hearing Devon employees lose their sh--. That is the only reason I come to this site. That first reply was priceless. LOL. You didn't need to give me any advice. I am putting in my notice in the next few months!!!! Can't wait to move to a new state and a company that is anything other than Devon.

Or maybe he actually liked and respected his past coworkers and knows how it feels to go to work every day and be treated like trash, as you call it. Maybe not everyone is as bitter as you. I know Devon has turned everyone so paranoid these days, but there are some people who actually know what professionalism is, and know that a lot of people deserve better

Did you read the original post? Why come troll the site 2 years after being discarded like the evening trash, obviously where you landed is better, you actually have a job there. The pathetic $#!t stain can’t get over getting laid off.

Dang DH, did someone run over your dog this morning? You do sound like the typical meat head, a--kisser that ol Dave loves to hold high on his shoulders while shouting, "People love me, they really live me"

Wow, such hostility. Sounds like the Almighty Devon has really turned you into a fun person to be around. I think the the OP has a valid point, and unless everyone wants to turn into the cynical A-hole that you are obviously are, then maybe people do need to open their eyes. Unless you have been crushed into thinking that this is the kind of treatment you deserve. I for one, am getting my things in order, and I am going to see what else is out there before it's too late and I become as miserable as you are. But hey, it's all anonymous, so maybe the OP was just a drunk who necer even worked for Devon. Who knows, but 1 thing is true, the "New Devon" is nothing more than the current Kerr Mcgee, so rife the boat until it crashes, and someday you may be CEO of the company that buys Devon out!! Good luck sir, and look back at response and ask yourself, are you happy with who you have become, because you sound really happy - congrats on that!!

Please seek counseling before you stumble on a random sharp object like you randomly stumble on this site every day and leave your pathetic cries for help and condescending remarks on a place that got rid of you like a piece of trash.
