Its a marbles games. Everything must be in balance. If your upper management has no diversification...it must be maintained at the lower levels to give the company the appearance of not violating any law. That being said, lower level older white employees are axed to salvage the carrers of upper managers.

Funny, Ive learned just about everything about my job, availed myself to overtime when needed, trained several people, participated in projects, and have an excellent attendance record.
Since I work nights, theres little if any opportunity to smooch. Most of my superiors know that I call it as I see it, and have at times gotten into warmed disagreements with management and engineering.
Yet....I didn't get laid off.
They layoff decisions as always are based on a top-down ranking system. There's a fixed number of folks scheduled to remain which is mostly dictated by corporate. Those at the top of their group on a given shift and department remain.
We lost a lot of really good folks in this last cut, but there just isn't going to be enough work in the near future. Its just the way it is right now and no company is going to hold onto workers out of charity. In this day and age you have to be expecting and prepared to eventually get laid off. Careers at a single company is extremely rare.

There is another company design center in Maitland too, their designers are way smarter than our ping pong table champion designers.
