Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

Promotions

Why is it that some people get promoted and others don’t? Same experience, same asset, what gives?

I left MRO because I had another job AND got severance. Best move I ever made. With diversity and female promos, any non-minority guy is toast, unless he’s a kiss Butt Brit (yes, I DO include Scotts) or one of the useless HES dweebs sitting on the upper floors (and running drilling HES when he doesn’t know the difference between a land rig and a jack up), the environment in the Tower is pure misery. Life is better elsewhere, in spite of what the inevitable retort from the HR robot will say in response to this post. .

It’s known all companies get together with their management teams and hold succession planning meetings. They know well in advance who they are targeting to be promoted. Don’t fool yourself. You will know if you are valued by your boss without question because you will be their go to person. It would also be obvious in one on one meetings because it would be brought up by your boss. If you have to bring it up, you already know. If you have done your best and feel it’s time to be promoted and you’re not, it’s time to leave. Don’t waste your time overanalyzing. What one company doesn’t value, another will!

Good luck with that promotion.. As long as MRO hires outside the company such as in Bakken D&C, and puts people in position that have no clue such as a drilling MGR in Eagleford that has never seen a drilling rig, forget promotions.

Maybe if your a consultant, drink during working hours, and hurt folk such as taking place in Eagleford right now, you will likely get promoted.

Believe it or not a consultant down in the eagleford asset has hurt people while operating equipment, returned to location drunk, made multiple operations mistakes such as pulling the BOP's and surface casing out of the ground, but yet this is the guy that gets to fill in as Field supt, while 30 year employees are forced to work nights. Promotions.. HA.. Pledge loyalty, be a yes man and be happy, not going far here as an employee.

Oh, and the supt in Eagleford says his employees aren't good enough anyway.. Just wonder, if the people that work for him are not good enough, Perhaps he should look at himself..

If you work drilling in the Eagleford you only move up if you’re a consultant and pledge allegiance to the superintendent. Employees get pushed out or work 2nd man.

Are you under 40? Are you an engineer? Are you Canadian? If you answer no to any of these questions, you will never be promoted and should move on!

I see Marathon is starting to hire again looking at the job postings. How long would I need to work there before I would get a promption?
