I think a case could be made for age discrimination. Some, of us that were "voluntary retired", were also advised that their position was eliminated. Either choice would leave you on the street. I took the parachute and am happy with my choice, but it was not really voluntary.

What really shocked me is during the web application process they ask you point blank what year you graduated HS. And during my phone interview last week the HR person tried to wheedle my age out of me several times. I'm fully expecting to be discriminated against. My job interview is this week

Total ageism. And a lot of companies are doing this "recent college grads apply" tactic to push away older people from applying!!!!

There was a job posted to Linkedin for ADP Maitland I found today. It was for a technical support position. The title was Technical Application Analyst I - May 2019 Grads Only.

Tell me that's not ageism

I call BS on the "not being able to handle the stress of a call center" reason. It's actual policy to let HR handle the decline to hire and then you are only given a generic answer because of legal reasons. I'm calling BS and this story is totally made up to troll this thread.

I'm surprised you were given any reason at all. The standard answer is something along the lines of "we've decided to go with another candidate." Very generic and can't be turned around on them. I can't remember ever being given a specific reason as to why I was not hired over someone else. That's not a typical HR practice.

I applied at ADP. I have 13 years of call center experience. I was denied a job. Reason given...I could not handle a busy call center or the stress that comes with it. So I guess my 13 years in a busy call center does not apply here??? My interview was suppose to be 60 minutes. When I got there she told me it would now be 30 minutes and it lasted less then 20 minutes. I really believe it was my age !!

They made it seem "voluntary" but it was anything but. Ageism is rampant and there are law firms willing to take it on. I suggest you seek counsel regardless of what you accepted and signed. I am.

My statement had nothing to do with the early retirement, but with the associates that have been targeted for RIF in the past 3 years and continue to be targeted that didn't qualify for the Retirement package.. Almost all are over 50 with many years of tenure.

What regions are closing today? There is so much going on that most is unknown to the other areas within the company. People are just gone... no info given... no transparency.

Today is a sad day for the regions that are closing. This is the last day for numerous tenured employees. Want to wish them all well. May the next chapter in all of your lives be rewarding.

But for those of us that did not.....it creates a hostile work environment for older workers. :-) Just a thought. I agree with you, you sign the document and no lawyer will talk to you. I hope you all read this very carefully.

The early retirement offer was strictly voluntary. I am one of the people that accepted it. The word voluntary was all over the document and that makes it not age discriminating but an offer you should not refuse. You wont even be eligible for unemployment because you accepted the offer voluntary. You will also not get unemployment when you are let go for poor performance. I chose the money and ran. Good luck finding a lawyer that will touch this. ADP is cruel but not stupid.
