Thread regarding Coca-Cola Co. layoffs

More Coca-Cola closures, this time it's warehouse in Pittsfield

Another one bites the dust.

Coca-Cola is closing its warehouse in Pittsfield. Official closing date is June 1.

I know most of the workers will be offered different positions in the company, but let's be honest, how many will actually be able to relocate?

Dude - are you on drugs? How much is the Coca Cola company paying you to write this stuff? You make relocating yourself and your family seem like a Club Med vacation. And who is to say that we won't be laid off in a few years/months at the new location?

If a company is willing to relocate workers that need the work, it can be a tremendous opportunity. I am always shocked at the number of people that dig in their heals and refuse to rely - unless you have elderly parents or relatives you are taking care of, then then most should take the leap. It is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills in a new environment and usually comes with advancement benefits down the road. Also, when looking at new firms, they view those that have relocated as highly adaptable resources which is one of the most critical skills in today's environment. Those willing to relook are more competitive, less likely to be laid off because they are perceived as highly adaptable and constantly willing to lear and test themselves in new environments. Life is short, you only live once. Don't be afraid to move. You can always come back. I always found I liked the new place far better than the one I left and developed skills more rapidly than my peers as I was willing to put my self out there, demonstrate courage, and go against the herd.
