Thread regarding FMC Technologies Inc. layoffs

The Bloody May

Today the company laid off 46 people within the learning group. People with a lot of experience, a lot of achievements and long tenure were laid off without any heads-up.

It is really sad to see where we are going after being one of the most respected companies within the oil & gas service/product sector. People was something important before the merge. Now people are just disposable numbers.

Poor management. I'm very sure that John Gremp (the best CEO this company has had) must be astonished and crying with the actions new management are taking.

I wish the company the best, but in my opinion they are going in the wrong direction.

In sports. The head coach or an assistant coach is fired for the teams poor performance. In business, locations or whole departments are shut down. And more vp's are hired

The learning group was run by people that did not know learning or leadership. Those same people are still in charge. If an entire department is not doing well, it is not the workers that should be gone. There will be much more blood in the entire company not just learning until the leaders are gone.

The three “leaders” actually carrying out the orders this week are an embarrassment to the organization. They should have been first, just ask anyone.

Learning was FAT. About time. Same benefit of training could be achieved for much less. No offense to the PEOPLE. That part is sad. But it was a good business decision.

This was way overdue, I disagree about the author's discussion of talent, many of them were not that capable, didn't work that hard (if at all), and were looking for projects to work on, however fruitless...

A lot of good things were being said at OTC. We're in the right direction.

Look at the Award Brian Skeels got for the company. this is the company you want to bad mouth? Come on!!!

Get back to work or start looking if you're whining sine you were sent home.

Why would Gremp be crying? He's the one who sideline Steve Barrett to put this present CEO there.

Look around the whole company from city to city - division to division - country to country - region to region. Everywhere is seeing cuts and relocation of facilities (combining and cutting). Wondering why? Town Halls have been had and the message is another $250 million to be cut before all is done. That can only happen by cutting people (payroll) and facility (asset) costs.

Oil is on its way back up but the mode is cut and consolidate. What happens when that multi-billion dollar multi floor project is landed? If the space is already reduced and the people are gone and jaded?

The training groups have long been bloated. Realistically, everyone learns what they really need to know via OTJ. The company's massive expenditures on 'training' were poorly planned. Too much focus on fancy training facilities, learning management systems and not enough on actual knowledge transfer.

Many in the 'learning' groups, merely parked on the EDGE and posted drivel related to human behavior and 'thought-provoking' links. Knowing how this place works, I wouldn't be surprised if the social media gurus have been retained while the few who did the required training facilitation/administration got sent home.

And to OP: 'lot of experience, a lot of achievements and long tenure' doesn't generate revenue.

For all to remember, the hatchet began to fall hard at the end of 2015/ beginning of 2016, well before the merger. The leadership just hasn't stopped chopping good people since

Technip is a heartless company with a big agenda to rid itself of FMC employees no matter their value to the organization. Good luck trying to run a learning organization with people who no little about Learning and Development. But developing their people apparently is not one of their priorities.
