Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Good Fishing -

Just remember, there are career consulting agencies looking for, well, I don't have to really tell you, do I? Wanted 12K for 12 months of consulting to help me find a new job. Just so you know what the going price was. Pinged from Glass Door. Somebody else went in for 18 and was still looking. Be warned, and hopefully that won't happen to you.

In my experience there is no value whatsoever in sending in various job apps, certainly not by paying someone a lot of money to do what you can do for yourself. Network, Network, Network. You need someone to get you in the door and you can meet them by going out and doing things. I'm part of a bicycling group, great for meeting other software types. Meetups work well also.

Hi "Bring_Back_MPE" ... I am in your EXACT same shoes, minus a year there, plus one here!

One 1/2 year contract job since then, at HPE of all places... Projects got cancelled, and so did my contract job. Only ONE other face-to-face interview during all this time, and no-go on that one!

The only way folks in our shoes can get good jobs, is to move to another city, and even then, they are going to be limited-run contract jobs, for the most part. I'm not going to move... So I am retired, and doing fine! Why work if you don't have to, when government is going to take easily 1/3d of it anyway?

(Live below your top possible standard of living while you earn money, and save, is the big secret).

Well I have had many haircuts since taking the early retirement offer in 2013 after 28 years at HP, and I'm still looking for something that pays a professional salary. I'm 60, male and white, so that may have something to do with the situation. I'm interested in hearing about other people's success after leaving HP/HPE/HP Inc.
