Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Cogswell College is NOT the same as Cogswell Education

FYI

Cogswell College is NOT the same as Cogswell Education.

In essence, the 600 student school is not going to take over DeVry. Instead, this newly formed entity "Cogswell Education" will be doing the takeover. Cogswell Education apparently owns Cogswell College, but the relationship is a one way deal. Nobody from the college really knows what is going on, other than what is in the news. i.e. our Parent company, Palm Ventures, decided to use the college's name to form the new entity to take over DeVry.

Nobody at DeVry should confuse Cogswell Education with Cogswell College, unless they were confused between the difference between the old DeVry Education Group with DeVry University.

have you heard of Leveraged Buyout? From this point onwards, Devry is a business concept meant for the owners and would-be owners to play a game between liability vs. equity. LW is playing a Shell game with Devry U. to reduce Adtalem's exposure and liabilities.

It's all about the money--if there's money, they'll keep it going. If there's a loss, they'll drop it like a hot brick. The only question is how long they'll take to decide which route to take...

Do you have a legal agreement in writing with them?...why do you think they care at all?

Someone is just handing them a ton of students and resources. How they manage it is up to them but it would dumb just to throw it all away....

As a backup plan in case we do not find other jobs, we are hoping Cogswell Education will shift resources around to keep the parts of DVU that can still be useful to them. Some of us are qualified to teach in the degree programs offered at Cogswell College.

Does this mean DeVry will be renamed as a Cogswell school? The Cogwell Education website only features Cogswell College....the pages are quite impressive.....doesn't seem like keeping the DeVry name would help them....will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Still hoping for soft landings for those who are still employed there.

The newly formed "Cogswell Education" (not, apparently, to be confused with Cogswell College) is evidently an invention of Palm Venture to house DeVry University. Assuming they change the name of DVU, is it just lipstick on a pig?

Hey, Cogwell Comrade! Thanks for reaching out. As I'm sure that you can tell from reading this board, most of DVU is frantically busy looking for other jobs at the moment. DeVry was once a great place to work and had a positive reputation as a tech school, and then a "good actor in a bad sector" but that's been in the toilet since the 2016 FTC settlement. Our management has been incompetent, self-interested, and deceptive, and our careers have suffered collateral damage from the fallout. Management constantly changes its mind, in seemingly random or contradictory directions, and there is a steady stream of often-invisible layoffs and benefit reductions as the company bleeds students and staff toward the seemingly inevitable teach-out. As you can see, general consensus seems to be here that AdTalem threw us away because they didn't know how to make us profitable after bleeding dry any remaining shreds of market goodwill towards DVU. Any positive news you might have would be highly appreciated--kindly pass on that we are hard-working, honest (if disheartened) faculty who desperately need support and care if there is any chance of making a go of it those of us who can't find other jobs would be happy to hear supporting messages and a positive plan to move forward. If there is one. Thanks.

I guess so LW is using a Shell Company type of gimmick for plausible deniability...
