Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Stay Away From Devon

I was offered a position with Devon. Signing bonus, they pay relocation. If I quit within 4 years all has to be paid back. All within 2 year, half if 3 years. During layoffs I was given a letter that pretty much suggested Devon would prefer I resign. It stated no severance, repayment of moving costs, etc. Also, I I resigned it would mean no unemployment.

All the risk was on my part. Devon has shown their true colors. They cannot be trusted.

I left the day of my relocation requirement was met, and I was told by HR that they would never have held me to paying it back. Wish I would have known I would have left sooner.

I knew someone who got relocation assistance when hired on. She hated the job, didn't fit in. When she quit they made her pay back all of that assistance. Ouch.

This is analogous to the severance payout. Do not sign if you have any thoughts of filing an EEO lawsuit.

Some on here talk like you win the lottery by getting chosen. The reality is, your health benefits end quickly and Cobra is incredibly expensive while seeking a new job, where you will be starting over with lower salary, PTO, everything.

You are correct. This is documented. If you quit, you get zero severance you are required to pay back moving costs, and the state won’t give you unemployment.

If you actually have such a letter, take it to a lawyer you could make a case for constructive dismissal.

False, all of those points are specifically outlined on all documentation released internally.
