Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

All Hail Devon exec team

i'm publicly asking the devon board to increase compensation for the exec team. DH's leadership, energetic speeches, and inspiring crystal-ball 2020 vision (full pun intended!) fully justify his 2017 $13M compensation (>50% increase from 2016).

even though the layoffs could have been totally paid for if DH got merely $8M instead of $13M, and even though the execs grossly overpaid for eagle ford and stack, and even though DH always fumbles every investor updates, i admit my engineering degree is too naive to question them.

and i gotta love the creative mind behind the layoff messages. the empathetic emails, and romantic video messages, oh gosh DH puts ryan gosling to shame.

lastly, i want to congratulate the managers level. they demonstrate full integrity by carrying out lies and mis-messages, double-speak, and assisting employees disappear against their will. you guys made george orwell and kim jong un proud! we are friends and family! tears flowing!

Some small comfort can be found in the fact that as the middle managers were lieing to us they were being lied to and now several of them are gone.

Who will be their reference?

I was also let go yesterday and I’m willing to bet that my manager and HR person have never seen a person more “ok” with being told they’re being laid off than I was. It was probably the easiest lay off either one of them have ever done.

I also was laid off yesterday after over 15 years of service. My manager recited the company talking points and was icy. HR rep gave me my packet and asked for my badge and said I had 1 hour to exit building. Could take personal items I could carry and would not be allowed to carry personal items out in a box. She actually said “no boxes allowed.” Everyone over 55 yrs old in accounting below vp level are or will be terminated. But at least Big Dave can be proud of his 50% increase in total compensation from ‘16 to ‘17.

I was laid off yesterday after nearly 15 years. Pretty shocking initially, but I’m happy to say I feel nothing but relief! It was pretty unbelievable though how cold and robotic the HR lady and my manager were yesterday when I was called in to be let go. Just remember, all that truly matters to them are shareholders and the executives. Those that actually have skills and keep the lights on do not matter! Those of you that have any form of dignity or respect for yourself better get your resume ready and get out soon.

Ok, I got the axe from Devon and will stink on DH when due, but how does a 5 million dollar difference pay for a lay off of 300? That’s about $16,600 per person. I’m guessing the avg comp package of a person laid off is $100K

What am I missing

Agreed. Wait until you see the new org chart. Still over 200 supervisors. Managers who have 1 or 2 reports. Managers with zero reports. We sure on the track to top quartile. The companies we compare ourselves to laugh at us. Devon is sinking. Sinking fast. I really am jealous of those who were lucky enough for a package.

Can anyone honestly tell me and the world what it is our SVP level does?
