Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Slow trickle of layoffs

A few in layoffs trickling in still, power systems and some finance.... I guess trying not call attention to it. Seems, ARAMCO still not recovering. I am sure someone will debate this with unjustified enthusiasm.

Saudi is great, doing great things and making great progress. Saudi has no need for people who cannot afford a wall never mind built it. Great Wall of China? Done. Berlin Wall? Done. Hadrians Wall? Done? Wall on US South Border? Yadda, Yadda, Yadda...its a wall, how tough can it be?

Saudi is doing just fine, just look at the CIA Factbook financial data, yikes when is America going to pay the Chinese back all that debt? When is the US going to reduce its deficit? Never mind, you could get a job building a wall once the Mexicans agree to pay for it...or at least lend you the money so you could get started.

We see that. Between the highly touted IPO, the rotting pile of junk in Jazan, the rising unemployment, the falling money supply, the evaporated foreign investment, the thousands of closed businesses, the crashing real estate market, the rising cost of living, the fleeing saudi capital, and exiting expat population I’d say you’re headed to exactly where you need to be. The only way you keep your own businessmen in the kingdom is by travel bans on them and their families. You’re doing great. In the meantime we want to report another 20 billion bbls discovered, by accident really so I guess we have another big play kicking off. Oh and to top it off? By 2020 your crude won’t be worth sht. In America? Rain or shine, it’s business as usual. Thanks for the nod.

Production is just fine. Latest hires are doing well. Everybody says so. If everyone agrees to zero tariffs and zero immigration controls even America could be great again.

Did I read the arrogant / proud Saudi talking about their unconventional resources? Where is all that production? These things are supposed to be put on line in days, not years. Even your moribund couldn't possibly get in the way of that. I guess booking reserves is a lot different than production. Just ask all those unconventional 'experts' you have hired over the years.

They got laid off because they kept drilling dry holes. That layoff actually made sense. Unconventional is still the sacred cow. They just want people who can actually do it.

After all of this trimming the last two years these idiots are burning up the US job pages looking for unconventional experts. Didn’t they hire a whole group in 2014 and lay them off in 2016? Maybe they want a new cheaper group under the new reduced retirement plan?

That exit permission always bothered me. It's unique to the region. Someone compared it to the Philippines but in the Philippines the exit visa can be obtained at the airport and never requires permission from anyone else (like Saudi requires permission from employers). It is obtained by the resident himself/herself

Offer rejection is actually another thread.

However since it was brought up yes, no matter how desperately aramco tries to pretend it is a multi-cultural company none of the management is multi-cultural.

Aramco's view (and treatment o and approach to) their non-saudi employees mirrors saudi arabia's view, treatment of, and approach to non-saudis at best as commodities to be tolerated at worst useful pets.

Such a hostile culture, played out in both saudi and western media, could possibly be a factor in determining whether to work at saudi aramco.

The current rhetoric and resentmeny towards non-citizens in saudi arabia (also Kuwait) was always under the surface. Now it has become mainstream. Absent a serious premium I suspect many choose to stay put and not deal with it.

I tend to agree with you. Many of those companies have already been in the news. What is not so well reported is the volume of people who withhold passports and visas from privately sponsored employees. Housemaids and the like. But I do think this thread should be about Aramco. I have never heard of Aramco withholding a passport or denying a visa for an employee unless that employee had committed some sort of fraud. But if that is the only point you believe causes people to reject offers, I can assure you it is not even on their radar screen.

If you know any other employer that does that, report them, name and shame them, even here, but you won't because you dont personally know any company that does. This thread is about Saudi Aramco and your information "about other companies" was not relevant.

Nobody said aramco holds passports like many other businesses and sponsors still do. They used to have check-in/check-out but why bother with the passport when aramco (and every other company) employees can't travel anywhere anyway until aramco (and every other company) approves a visa allowing them to do so. Is that misinformation? Do speak up. Wait - I should have said "non-Saudi employees". All better now.

Not true. Expat passports are not held for safekeeping. That was a different era. Do you not have any contacts to keep you up to-date? Or you just come here to spread disinformation?

Turnover seems to be a sensitive subject. Must be bad. If retention was good they'd highlight it. Dunno how many times I heard "If I can just get to five...... while I was there.

Just spitballing here but I really want to help the guy out. Let the passport thing go. He obviously has some pent up shame in that area. What's the point?

"Own it"

That's very important sounding. We know where your passport came from LOL.

The article did not mention saudi aramco nor did I relate the two. In my experience (and I have seen dozens come and go) the majority of professionals (expatriate) that Aramco hires do not stay longer than 5 years, matching the statistics reflected in the article.

I remember hiring 6 in 2015. 4 are already gone. That's how high turnover has been and it is getting worse.

The only one who applied the magical kingdom stats to saudi aramco is you.

Previous posts referenced the magic kingdom.

Were you appointed company spokesman so that aramco could get a 2-saudi credit for employing a local retard or are you really the sharpest tool in the Aramco toolshed?
