Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Now I'm scared...

I really did not believe Sears would go down and have to close all of its stores any time soon (if ever), but after Toys R Us and now Bon-Ton... I don't know what to think anymore...

I am actually genuinely scared right now that it is a realistic possibility... So much for believing we are too big to fail...

@SMdpVgS-2sjr Holy if that is truth man 75 to 100 stores its going to drop the stock like a rock man. Also the vendors are really going to freak out that is way to many even 75 stores close let alone 100.

@SMdpVgS-2bec You have it here folks being in the top 50 yet they close. Lets be real no one is indeed safe and especially if your store isn't profitable its bound to get close sooner or later.

NONE of the stores are safe. My Sears store was a top 50 store. Closed this month. And no, it wasn’t a Seritage property.

"Those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores." DO NOT wait until it is too late because more than likely you are NOT eligible for severance.

I got out after 27 years with Sears.....I got tired of worrying about how much longer my job at Sears would exist...I have been out of Sears for 4 months now working for a different company that is growing....not declining.....There is life outside of Sears.

I hate to break your bubble, but that "realistic possibility" has been the on going truth for close to 10 years. It is no longer a possibility - it is a fact. You can try and spin it any way you want to try and fool yourself into complacency, but the truth is all that really matters.

OP its not the end yet as of now (if you heavily rely on Sears) start applying to other places because the day Sears files Chapter its going to be a saturated market to actually get a job its going to be very tough. Its sad, but its going to happen Sears is on its last legs sadily they didn't innovate and adapt.

Think positive you realized its coming to an end a lot of delusional people still think Sears is going to turn the tables and do a come back.

I still feel Sears will limp through the holiday season (under Chapter 11) before going Chapter 7 early next year.

Has Sears pulled completely out of any large markets yet?

Just keep your head down and stay busy. When you're not a work spend some time updating your resume and study your local job market. If and when the p--p hits the fan at least you'll have a head start and won't be as unprepared. Good luck.
