Are they done with layoffs for the day or will it go on throughout the rest of the day?

It’s over. If you made it you’re safe. Not me.
If you were at your desk and no one called you, it is over for you. Those on sick day etc will be notified when they are back or until Friday over phone whichever is earlier.
Likely today and tomorrow, Friday for those whom they can’t notify in these two days
For rest of the week.
