Anyone who is not ready to retire and got a departure date should be looking for another job now. Don't let them dangle that "package" in front of you as an incentive to stay. That leave in a year thing will not turn out to be true. Micron will let you go long before that. That package will be a lot less and you will be out of a job. It won't be enough to carry you anyway; heavily taxed.
The cuts I heard about are in Boise. Micron is ruthless.

Are the rumors talking about worldwide headcount reduction or are expected in a specific area? USA, Emea or Asia?

Why wait?
Get a job elsewhere before the market gets flooded with workers who have the same training as you. If you wait for the severance package, sure you get will get the payout but also have more competition for jobs in your area of expertise. That package is not going to last long and will be heavily taxed.
