It's clearly not true! While we're on it, doesn't that apply to every retail store? There are regional chains that are very successful and not present to everyone in the United States, there are big national chains that aren't everywhere. If a town doesn't have a Walmart within 100 miles, does that make Walmart irrelevant? Or does that theory only apply to Kmart?

Why doesn't Kmart have mulch? Its late April and no mulch for garden shop.
There's one store left in the Denver Colo. area, and it will certainly be closing in the near future. It can't compete with the Walmart that just opened two blocks away. It's a sad sight. The store is extremely understaffed and understocked, except for distilled water, plastic tubs, garden statues e.t.c., anything cheap that takes up space. It's almost May and they still haven't set up lawn and garden.
Kmart closed all four of its Rochester, NY stores and hightailed it out of here last year. They are about ready to do likewise in Buffalo and Syracuse. Read the store count lust. There are whole states wuth zero Kmart stores, with more to come.
Of all the chains left vulnerable to retail recession, Kmart's rundown stores are it. If the management won't take pride and invest in their stores, why should shoppers?
I haven't set foot in a Kmart in 10 years. It was a sh--hole then. Precisely what has improved since then?
So as the units close and they transfer the leftover merchandise to stores still open, I guess the big question is who passes the hat at Hoffman Estates to pay for gas for the shuttle truck?
Good God, op, just STFU.
I'm not surrounded by bad areas.
The nearest Kmart to me (and the only one for 20 plus miles) is in a s?ithole neighborhood.
@avm, which displays why it's so silly that Walmart is held up as something has to be equal to. Successful retailers don't have to be in every single town like Walmart to be considered successful. Kmart can be perfectly successful and accessible without being in every single town.
@lxw, sorry that you are surrounded by bad areas!
@mjm, wash your blasphemous mouth out with soap!
Sears Holdings is one company and so many on here we're saying lies about Kmart.
The only Kmart near to me is a sitty store in a sitty area, what many would call dangerous.
I'll pass, thanks.
I have at least 10 Walmarts within 100 miles of me....maybe as many as 15. How many Kmarts do I have within 100 miles of me? Absolutely zero.....the closest Kmart is probably at least 200 miles away.
If you don't have a Walmart within 100 miles, you're not a town.
Jesus, enough already. There are more than 10 times as many Walmarts in the US as there are remaining Kmarts. You can't possibly think that's comparable/competitive.
