Shell is cutting 55+
Shell is cutting everybody over 50, not just 55. It's being done all over the industry. Everybody who has been here long enough to be receiving half decent pay has a target on their back.
If you are nearing 50, make sure to update your resume and dust of your interviewing skills. You'll need it.
Shell is a thankless world where they squeeze the freaking life out of you requiring a great deal of commitment leaving employees with little time for "work-life balance". Management does not give a s#@t about your 'life' and anyone that thinks differently is very naive. All it takes is a new GM and a reorg then your suddenly unemployed at +50 years old. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication over these many years, now GET LOST! Oh and here's a pittance of money on the way out the door so you don't sue us. Anyone in their 30's and 40's better have a plan B and make damn sure your saving because your day of reckoning is coming too. 20 -30 years is a very long time to survive in this environment. Odds of making it to +60 are not in your favor. Things may look and feel real rosy right now but things change, trust me.
Actually youth is a liability at Shell. It is much more difficult for young people with little experience to get laid off. This is discrimination and unfair to the younger employees.
This whole concept of casting people over the side as soon as they hit 50 is certainly rather strange and disproportionate. It’s origin lies somewhere in an ancient past does it not or is that too cynical for a modern-day keyboard junkie. I feel the idea should be tossed between the Scylla of inflexibility and the Charybdis of banality but what would I know.

The dumbing-down is getting worse if you represent who is left. Get an education and study English grammar.
Although I am not near that age for the past year I seen a lot of 50 year plus employees let go. The reasoning was “ die to the reorganization needs”, but how ironic no less than six months later those same positions are occupied by those who are in their late twenties.
Get a good bulldog employment lawyer and sue them for age discrimination.
