Does anybody know what kind of severance does DST offer? And will it remain the same once SS&C Technologies take over?
I've heard that sometimes incoming companies have a tendency not to honor the severance previously offered by the acquired company, and I'm worried something like that might happen to us.
But, but... I'm a manager or directory, and I only have a highschool diploma! Any other company will expect to actually know something!!!
and don't forget, an HR person looking at a resume is thinking the same thing... 28 years at one place? clear indication the person is afraid of change. And change is the only thing constant in today's workplace.
yeah but staying any any job for too long is a red flag that you okay just 'coasting'. Unless you've climbed the corporate ladder all the way to the very top in 13 or 28 years, you're just a pencil pusher and are disposable. If you are not changing jobs every 5-10 years, you are not acquiring the skills needed to be scooped up by competitors. Once upon a time staying a at a job for one's entire career was okay, but times have changed and staying in the same role for 28 years means you don't want to adapt. If you don't switch up your jobs and acquire a really wide range of skills and experiences, you are viewed as lazy. But don't worry, the younger generation realizes this and they are reaping the benefits of not being laid off and having the better resumes - because they are not afraid to change jobs every 5 years.
To the person who said "anyone who has been at the same job for 13 years is probably stale", long-term employees used to be looked upon as dedicated and loyal to the companies they worked for, fully expecting to retire at those companies with pensions and benefits and good retirement funds. I realize times have changed and job-hopping is now seen as positive and progressive for potential employers, but please don't stereotype long-term employees just because we have chosen a different path than you. I've been at DST for 24 years and they've been good to me. I'm proud of that time I've given them and still have passion for the job I do, even through all the changes we've experienced and are going to continue experiencing over the next several years. Feel free to continue your job-hopping, I'm planning to retire with DST.
To the uninformed person who said "DST no longer exists"...........prior to being a publicly held company, DST was owned by Kansas City Southern. As a subsidiary of KCSI, DST existed as its own company. Now, DST is once again owned by another company. Similar to when it was owned by KCSI, DST will continue to operate as it's own company under SS&C. Its stock no longer trades on the NYSE because it is no longer a public company with actively traded stock. DST did not go anywhere. The people who own it just changed.

They sent us email on this a few weeks ago. check your deleted items folder. If you laied off due to merger its 2 weeks pay for each year worked minimum 10 weeks max is 52 weeks plus 6 months insurance premium. I been here 13 years so I will get 26 weeks pay if laid off
they don't even have to pay severance if they don't want to. just stop worrying. the economy is booming, go get another job if it worries you that much or just wait and see what happens.
unless you are SVP or above, any severance you get will be bare minimum. you agreed to work as an employee at will, which means they can let you go at anytime for any reason.
Just don't get yourself fired for reason because then you won't be able to collect unemployment if you do get laid off.
